code of ethics

Photo: Karen & Kazkiri Xiva

This Code is a compilation of the GSDCA Code, VCA Code & our personal breeding ethics from 17 years of breeding experience.

We have established this Code as a guideline for breeding & owning German Shepherd Dogs, to try to reduce the number of German Shepherd Dogs found in Rescue Centres here in Australia.

We would hope that other GSD Breeders will soon adhere to similar responsible breeding practices.

This is based firmly upon the opinions of Kazkiri Kennels.

1. We will only breed German Shepherd Dogs who are temperamentally & structurally sound.

2. We do not breed with any unregistered GSDs.

3. We do not breed with any GSD before the age of 18 months.

4. All breeding stock have passed the GSDCA Breed Improvement Schemes.

5. We make every effort to insure that our puppies are free from inherited defects, by screening prospective breeding stock for those problems common to our breed.

Due to complex genetic interactions & environmental factors beyond our control, we cannot guarantee that a puppy purchased from us will be free of genetic disorders.

If the puppy should develop hip or elbow problems in the first 12 months & which render the puppy/dog incapacitated & unable to carry on a normal life, we will agree to replace the puppy with one of equal value from our next available litter, provided this is thought to be caused by defect, & not through injuries caused by accident or negligence.

This must be confirmed by examination of x-ray plates by the recognised authorities Professor Wyburn or Dr Roger Lavelle.

6. We breed approximately 2 litters per year to produce what we believe to be quality German Shepherds which conform to the Breed Standard.

7. When we have litters, we make sure our puppies are entrusted to loving committed homes.

8. We do not breed to supply pet shops, markets or "dealers".

9. We allow our pups to go to their new homes once the puppies have reached the age of eight weeks.

10. All puppies are sold in healthy condition, having been wormed regularly, vet checked & vaccinated at 6 weeks of age.

11. Each puppy leaves our care with a gift pack which includes:

  • VCA Registered pedigree
  • Photos of sire & dam
  • 5-generation pedigree
  • Copies of Hip/Elbow results
  • Copies of Breed Surveys
  • Contract of Sale
  • Feeding Chart
  • booklet on raising the puppy.

12. The buyer has the option of taking the puppy to their Veterinary Surgeon (at the buyer's expense) for a general health check within 48 hours of purchase.
If the Veterinary Surgeon finds any problem with the puppy which in their opinion, renders the puppy unfit for sale, the buyer has the right to return the puppy & get a full refund on condition that the puppy is returned to the Breeder within 5 days of the date of purchase & is in the same state of health as it was when sold to the buyer.

13. We advise new owners to take their puppies to some form of obedience training.

14. We do not export our puppies or older dogs overseas under any circumstance

15. All prospective puppy owners are required to complete & submit the Puppy Inquiry Form

16. We are committed to providing assistance & loving care to every puppy we produce for the life-time of that puppy.

17. Our policy is that we are as near as the phone to anyone who has a Kazkiri puppy!
